Calufa

Calufa (noun) is one of the many terms used in Andalusia and the Canary Islands dialect to describe intense, extreme heat.

Merging experiential and scientific data, my project explores the challenges currently faced in my hometown, Andalusia, as a consequence of human induced climate change, with a focus on heat as the main element. It speculates with possible futures, based on the latest IPCC report, through a range of making practices. Can a sensorial approach help us better understand the challenges and realities of climate change and empathise with other regions? Through an ongoing archiving practice that gathers climate data, using multiple communicative tools, this work explores different ways to translate the realities and effects of climate change through personal experience.
