The cM Donald's project embodies the concept of 'food remedy' drawn from Traditional Chinese Medicine and other practices in Chinese traditional culture, such as Feng Shui, Qi, etc.
This project is also a counterfactual history project, depicting a parallel universe where the Opium Wars that happened nearly two centuries ago as a turning point had the opposite results; where China wasn't defeated disastrously. The hypothesis here is to create a civilisation balance between Chinese and Western cultures, where practices and beliefs associated with Traditional Chinese Medicine have paralleled dominant Western practices. McDonald's is chosen to be the space where cultural collisions happen.
In this context, the definition of McDonald's will be shifted from a restaurant that represents efficiency, calculability, and predictability to a place where people seek 'Qi', highlighting the quality of vital energy and pursuing every individual's compatibility with food. This project reimagines the most representative fast-food restaurant through the TCM belief system by bringing a non-Western perspective to re-examine the relationship between food, medicine and our health. cM Donald's uses the fast-food restaurant as the medium to go beyond our bodies' relationships with food to question the Western norms and dominance over the world.
