I've been to this strange land, where nothing is impossible, where animals and plants exist only for a fraction of a second and spin away as soon as you notice them. Where every creature is a shapeshifter, and nothing stays the same for longer than a moment.
I want to present you with an encyclopedia of this fantastical dream world that exists somewhere in the depths of my subconscious. I get a glimpse into this land almost every time I close my eyes and indulge in a hypnagogic nap. The surreal everchanging creatures and plants have formed themselves in the symphony of my unconscious thoughts. They are a collage of memories, ideas, perceptions and dreams.
Hypnagogia is a transitional state between wakefulness and sleep which occurs as one drifts away to sleep. It provides one of the strangest, craziest, and most intriguing dreams. In this project, I used hypnagogic visions to create the Encyclopedia of Dreams, an encyclopedia of flora and fauna of the fictional Dreamland.
The second part of my project is a publication containing instructions on how to use hypnagogia to come up with ideas for art and design and how to 'hack' dreams for creative problem-solving. It is the method I used and perfected to come up with all the images for the encyclopedia, converted into a clear set of instructions for anyone who needs creative inspiration.
