Trainer as: Material Object & Access to Memory

'TRAINER as: Material Object & Access to Memory' acts as an understanding, for myself, on why I find trainers so interesting and appealing - by deconstructing these designed objects into their different components. These different components then act as lenses in which to view the trainer, elevating it above being just a piece of footwear. The two main components I focused on were that of materiality - deconstructing the shoes to understand them as a material artefact by physically taking them apart, and the second is using trainers as an object to give access to memory. The way these two avenues of investigation materialised were in the form of: Material - A series of photographs displaying the components of a trainer in various compositions, with added text displaying the information found through the deconstruction process. Access to Memory - A short video project where individuals were interviewed about their own memories associated with trainers. Each video expresses a different feeling and sense of self in the stories that are told.
