When I Go, You Come Too...

When I Go, You Go Too. . . surrounds the juxtaposition of the temporary & persistent, and focuses on creating a home using the human psyche to design novelty and permanence through lighting design.

Each light is crafted entirely using the technique of Paper Maché, some interlaced with seeds for an afterlife or dyed with natural pigments made from red cabbage to play with hues. These designs were created to push sustainability within design and to introduce new materials not used in furniture design before; like mussel plaster created by Phoebe Quare as one example.

Each design is biodegradable and non-toxic during decay when its user decides to dispose of it or is no longer there to own it. The shades are crafted to fit on a juxtaposing durable stand and can be interchanged when a new look is desired. I wanted to harness the essence of homely, comforting, powerful light sources like the fireplace and translate it into radical, sustainable, functional pieces of lighting design. The fireplace plays an important role in a home socially, culturally and mentally.

It is important that we understand our surroundings and feel comfortable in them with the objects we chose to
surround ourselves with. I investigated the strong effects of certain types of light on the way we feel and was drawn to the aesthetic of candlelight from the film 'Barry Lynden' directed by Stanley Kubrick. I chose to focus on warm tones to translate similar feelings created by a flame into a space of your choice.
